The Astronomy Coursebook has recently reached its twelfth edition. Allow us to give a short motivation and description of and for this new edition. Since the eleventh edition (published in the year 2000-2001) quite a few things have changed in astronomy - think of the definition of a planet, the number of discovered exoplanets, the exponential way in which the surface of telescope mirrors grows, and much more - and the field of (astro)physics has also expanded considerably: think of new theories about Gamma Ray Bursts, the insights into the global structure of the universe, observations of a not so regular solar cycle, etc. Another primary reason for the new edition was the need for a book that also fits better with the current book market in terms of form: for example, we have added a lot of beautiful color photos (including quite a few by Wega photographers).
